My name is Barbara Anne Helberg. I grew up on a farm in Northwest Ohio and still cherish the farmland and its countryside.

My work as a journalist and free-lancer has been published in the Northwest-Signal, Napoleon; the Deshler Flag, Deshler; and the Leipsic Messenger, Leipsic, in Henry and Putnam counties, Ohio, in the 1980s.

My 1968 Certificate of Recognition in "Fiction Writing" was awarded by the Famous Writers School, Westport, Connecticut. I also earned a 1995 Certificate of Completion in "How to Write Contemporary Fiction" from the University of Toledo Division of Continuing Education; and a recognition certificate from the 1997 Writer's Digest School's "The Novel Writing Workshop".

In 1964, I graduated from Holgate High School, Holgate, Ohio, and in 1980-'81 successfully completed one year of college on the Dean's List at Defiance College, Defiance, Ohio, in Communications and Secondary Education.

Since the age of ten, I've thrilled to the sports of baseball and horse racing, have followed them passionately, and enjoy writing fiction stories about them.

I am adamant about animal rights, always have had a dog in my life, and love to walk with my canine companion.

Currently, I am happily retired to my continuing interests in writing, reading, exploratory amateur drawing and painting, and sports.

Check out my new "animals talkin'" blog here. It is dedicated to our furry friends who share our lives and many times give more than they receive.

And if you have an interest in lighthouses and their history, take a look at this new blog.

In 2011, I received the honor of a "Hub Of The Day" award for my Hub entitled Thoroughbred Racing and Unwanted Horses Rescue.
